Subnetwork Pelargonium

The Subnetwork Pelargonium was founded in 2017. It has been coordinated by the Julius Kühn Institute (JKI) since 1 October 2019. The contact person is Dr Sylvia Plaschil, who studies the genetics of the genus Pelargonium at the Institute for Breeding Research on Horticultural Crops. More than 10 partners are involved in the subnetwork. All participants benefit from the close co-operation and regular exchange of information.
The common goal is to document the existing genetic diversity of this important ornamental plant in decentralised plant collections and to preserve it long-term.
The species and varieties of the subnetwork that are of cultural-historical or breeding significance are successively cultivated, verified and described at the BSA test station in Dachwig. The information collected can be viewed in the DGZ database.
