Gene Bank for Vegetatively Propagated Ornamentals
Ornamentals propagated vegetatively (e.g. by cuttings) are preserved in the Gene Bank for Vegetatively Propagated Ornamentals, coordinated by the BSA. This gene bank is divided into genus-specific subgroups, so-called subnetworks:
• Subnetwork Ericeae
• Subnetwork Hydrangea
• Subnetwork Lilium
• Subnetwork Magnolia
• Subnetwork Pelargonium
The subnetworks are organised by different coordination centres. They connect collectors, breeders, nurseries and institutions such as botanical gardens. Regular meetings and events ensure a favourable exchange. In this way, the various collections benefit from the expertise and experience of the different members.
