Gene Bank for Seed Propagated Ornamentals
Since its foundation in 2012, this gene bank has been preserving ornamental plants propagated by seed. The BSA is responsible for the coordination. Several partner organisations provide support. The gene bank collection received by the BSA currently comprises over 400 accessions from almost 80 different botanical species. The accessions are cultivated, described and the harvested seeds are prepared for long-term storage at -18° C. Propagation, cultivation and storage takes place at the testing centre in Hanover with the support of the Dachwig testing station.
