Subnetwork Magnolia

The Subnetwork Magnolia is the youngest subnetwork of the Gene Bank for Vegetatively Propagated Ornamentals. It was founded in 2021 and is coordinated by Dr Patrick Knopf, head of the Rombergpark Botanical Garden in Dortmund. For many decades plants and woody plants from all regions of the world have been collected and presented to the public in the park. This includes what is now Germany's largest collection of magnolias, which has been continuously expanded since the network was founded.
Together, the partners in the subnetwork are pursuing the goal of preserving and documenting the diversity of magnolias in decentralised collections. The collections are gradually being published in the DGZ database. Information on almost 120 Magnolia accessions is already available.
The partners maintain a regular dialogue, for example through annual meetings. The interplay of cooperation and exchange is a win-win situation for everyone involved.
