General Test for New Roses (ADR)

General Test for New Roses (ADR)

The ADR is a research group, made up of the BSA, BdB and 11 other independent test gardens, that evaluates garden value and especially resistance of new rose varieties. The BSA is the coordinator for the ADR tests. The ADR is about 60 years old and was founded by rose breeders in the BdB.

Over a period of 3 years value qualities such as hardiness, flower expression and leaf health are tested without the use of herbicides. Those roses that prove to be especially resistant to disease are then awarded the ADR Seal, a quality award, which is highly coveted. Of the 2,000 varieties already tested, more than 200 have been awarded the ADR Seal and 192 are listed on the current ADR variety list.
