The Federal Plant Variety Office at the International Green Week (IGW) 2020 in Berlin - impressions

"Du entscheidest! / You decide!" - Under this year's motto of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), visitors were informed about the diversity of potatoes at the stand of the Federal Plant Variety Office (BSA). In Germany, there are approx. 160 admitted potato varieties (in the National List). Three of them ("Goldmarie", "Leyla" and "Adretta") were offered for tasting at the our stand, so visitors could decide which cooking type (solid, predominantly solid and flour-boiling) they prefer.

School classes, politicians and many visitors took the opportunity to learn more out about the differences between (potatoe) varieties, details of the breeding progress as well as breeding aims. General questions about our work – especially on Plant Breeders’ Rights and National Listing (not only for potatoes) were answered by our colleagues.
