The Federal Plant Variety Office publishes the Federal Statistics annually based on the information recorded by the Federal States on the seed multiplication areas applied for field inspection and the accepted seed multiplication areas.
In view of the increasing importance of organic farming and the Federal Government's objective of increasing the ecological cultivation of the agricultural area in the medium term, the Federal Statistics are supplemented by information on seed multiplication on organically cultivated areas.
Starting with this year's statistics, the proportion of organically cultivated seed multiplication areas are published in addition to the total multiplication area.
The Seed Certification Agencies of the Federal States record the organic and conventional seed multiplication areas separately based on the declaration given in the application form for seed certification procedure.
This differentiation is based on the voluntary information provided by the applicant of seed certification procedure. The published organic areas therefore do not claim to be complete. Seed Certification Agencies are not obliged to check the applicant's voluntary specification for accuracy.
