Plant collection network

Plant collection network

Private plant collections are brought together in the plant collection network. Significant key goals of the organisation include documenting the diversity of genetic resources in Germany and collating information. In addition, if a plant collection is endangered, support is provided to search for sponsorship in order to preserve the existence of the collection in the long term. The origin of the network was the Deutsche Gartenbau-Gesellschaft 1822 e.V. project (DGG): “Developing a network of plant collections in the German Gene Bank for Ornamentals”

Since 1st June 2017, the network has been coordinated by the Federal Plant Variety Office. The DGG continues to provide support.  Over 370 plant collectors are registered on the network’s website and over 160 collections, with over 46,000 accessions, are documented. 83 supporting partners are active in the German Gene Bank for Ornamentals. Additional information can be found on the plant collection network website. Information on the network’s collections is available in a database.
