ADR - Performance tests of new varieties of roses in Germany

The ADR working group consists of Bundessortenamt, the German nurseries association, rose breeders and 11 independent trial gardens. ADR evaluates value and diseases resistance of rose varieties and was founded 60 years ago by rose breeders and the German nurseries association. Characteristics such as winter hardiness, number of flowers, attractiveness and scent of the flower and resistance are assessed during a test which last 3 years without chemical treatments. Rose varieties which show a high resistance against diseases and have a high value for gardening are awarded with the ADR quality certificate. Up to now more than 1700 varieties have been tested and 154 varieties have been awarded with the ADR certificate. The coordination of ADR is done by the Bundessortenamt.
