Bundessortenamt

We welcome you to our improved Bundessortenamt website. We have redesigned the site so that it can be navigated easily by all users. We are especially pleased that this new form provides the means necessary for the sight impaired to read the site in a barrier free access with their appropriate tools.On our pages you will find not only interesting and extensive information about the operations at the Bundessortenamt but also detailed descriptions of varieties in the 'Beschreibende Sortenlisten'. These descriptive variety lists can be viewed online free of charge or can be ordered in print form directly from the BSA. The lists describe the most important characteristics of all the varieties registered in Germany as well as those of many of the varieties registered in other European countries. They are developed mainly for seed and plant material consumers and for official consultants but will be of interest to any and all persons who engage in plant studies whether they be on the job, at school or university or just in private. Beside the information in the descriptive lists current information about newly listed agricultural varieties are available, as soon as the variety committees reach a decision on a variety. The information is posted on our website and can be accessed in clear and precise form. Our monthly publication 'Blatt für Sortenwesen' is also available online. In it you will find the monthly announcements from the Bundessortenamt.

At the invitation of the German Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Plant Protection the 29th ISTA Congress will take place in Cologne (Germany) from 16-22 June 2010. The Bundessortenamt chairs the national organising committee for this international Congress. Please visit www.ista-cologne2010.de for further information.

For plant breeders, especially those applying for Plant Breeders' Rights or for National List, we offer access to the valid data by means of a password. As of the year 2007 the Bundessortenamt is the first variety office to offer online applications to plant breeders. On these pages the breeders can even access all data and results pertaining to varieties in current testing processes.
